Free Alphabet Copywork Printable! Handwriting practice for upper and lowercase letters! improve your child's handwriting and increase letter recognition!

Now, I’m not the biggest fan of handwriting worksheets –but sometimes you just can’t avoid them! (Because—kids gotta learn to write!) And interestingly, my son actually takes great joy in doing independent work and views handwriting worksheets as fun–so go figure!

I’ve created an entire workbook to practice letter writing, and I’m so excited to share it with you!  These pages will give your child plenty of practice writing the letters of the alphabet—and will actually help with overall letter recognition and recall.

My handwriting worksheets include two pages for each letter—both uppercase and lowercase practice. The pages include corresponding pictures–which are great sound “clues!”  I find it’s really helpful to have a keyword to help your child remember letters and sounds…For example, every time my little guy gets stuck on L—his clue is “lion.”  The image of a lion and the sound clue, immediately help him to remember either the name “L,” or the sound of L.

Tips for Implementing Handwriting Practice

If your child finds worksheets or handwriting practice cumbersome—please don’t make them complete the entire page! That’s one of the beauties of homeschooling—you can adjust everything to meet your child’s needs.

And try this constructive strategy from my days as a classroom teacher…have your child choose the best one or two letters they wrote and circle them.  Kids begin to take ownership and become much more self-aware of their own work when asked to evaluate it!  I instruct my son to look back through his work and circle his “best letter.”  Then I pick my favorite letter (most of the time we agree)!  Remember the goal is quality practice—not perfection!

I hope these handwriting worksheets are a helpful tool for getting in that extra practice—and for helping your children increase their letter/sound recognition!  You will be amazed—before long they will be reading and writing independently (WOW—this makes your life so much easier)!  Be sure to check out my post How to Teach Your Child to Read– My Top 5 Reading Strategies!
