Other Resources
Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie De Paola
When celebrating holidays, I really want my kids to understand some of the meaning behind the traditions. The story of Saint Patrick is fascinating! I truly didn’t know the story myself until I read Tomie De Paola’s book, Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland, with my kids. If you aren’t familiar with Tomie De Paola, you’re really in for a treat–he is both an amazing story teller and brilliant illustrator. My kids (and myself) are instantly immersed in his beautiful tales. He shares the story of Saint Patrick with such love–don’t miss it!
St. Patrick’s Day by Gail Gibbons
Gail Gibbons is another favorite children’s author of mine (she writes and illustrates excellent non-fiction for kids). Her book, St. Patrick’s Day, gives kids insight to both the history of Saint Patrick and ways people celebrate the holiday. I love this short and sweet book–filled with great information but very kid friendly!
Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie De Paola
So this book is just pure fun! Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato has been a St. Patty’s Day favorite of mine for years! Not directly about St. Patrick’s Day–instead, this book is an Irish Folktale (which includes a tricky leprechaun)…It always gets giggles and big smiles! Very sweet and lighthearted–I think it will be a family favorite at your house too!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Sweet Friends!
With Love,
Jen xo
